parents. inability to apologize. toxicity.
Too many feelings on the table. The blood spills with every cut and her fingers tremble with relief. Alice has proven her point. Her mother’s words cut the same as the knife cuts her skin. And Alice’s mother, Viv, stands in awe, unsure whether to smack the knife out of her daughter’s hand, yell at her, or remain still and say nothing. Because obviously, Viv is incapable to apologize. ‘Sorry,’ is not in her vocabulary.

One of my favourite movie lines came from the Geoffrey Chaucer character in A Knight’s Tale: “I will eviscerate you in fiction.” I’ve written my own bloody tale but I didn’t have the courage to publish it, so good for you. And oh, I hope it helps…

I find that pouring my feelings/experiences as other characters is easier than to spill my tales. It’s easier to wear that mask.
